Despite the heavy rains, fans, fellow artists, and other well-wishers braved the weather to honor and celebrate Mr Chibambo’s life and legacy.
A memorial concert was held in his honor, featuring performances by several artists, including Yo Maps, Macky 2, Afunika, Mozegeta, Shi Mumbi, and others, who paid tribute to his contribution to the Zambian music industry.
Mr Chibambo was involved in a car accident on New Year’s Eve while traveling to Kitwe for a performance.
The accident claimed four lives on the spot, while Mr Chibambo was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) for emergency brain surgery.
Despite undergoing a successful operation, Mr Chibambo succumbed to his injuries later.
In an emotional tribute, one of his daughters, Comfort, speaking on behalf of her siblings, shared how their father passed away on the birthday of one of his daughters, Shekinah Chibambo, who was turning 11.
“Daddy sadly passed on Shekinah’s birthday. She was turning 11,” she said.
Comfort also expressed how her father was her best friend and a pillar of support, describing him as a loving husband, father, and uncle.
“Speaking for the whole family, you were a great husband, a good father, and a wonderful uncle,” she said.
And in her tribute, Mrs. Chibambo mourned the loss of her husband, describing him as her true love and a unique talent.
“It is with an overwhelming sense of loss and a heart shattered by grief that I write this tribute to you, Wesley Chibambo King Dandy, you were more than just an extraordinary musician. Your talent was unmatched. I have lost the love of my life,” she said.
